In the wake of the Coronavirus or COVID-19, governments across the world announced something that nobody has ever heard of – social distancing. The idea behind this is to keep distance between people and stop the spread of this deadly virus. Shops and retail outlets, are still open, and are using floor tape to separate their customers when they line up at the counters – an easy solution!
But what does that have to do with us here at Cotewell you ask? A lot…!
Below we outline the top 3 things to remember when looking for social distancing floor tape.
1. Will it be able to be removed
Most tapes can be removed in the future, but how easily is the question. A lot of cheap tapes are thin and break easily when trying to remove, so ensure it has a reasonable amount of thickness to it. On removal most tapes leave a sticky residue that is difficult to remove, so ensure it removes without leaving the sticky residue behind.
Remember, at some point these new laws may be lifted and you no longer need to enforce social distancing, so you will want to remove the tape.
2. Will it stick successfully to multiple surfaces
There is heaps of different tapes out there, but sticking to some surfaces can be tricky. Carpet is the most complex of them all as there is nothing that is ‘solid’ for the tape to stick to. So the point here is to make sure that you use a tape that is extremely sticky to ensure it binds as best as possible to any surface.
You don’t want the tape to start pealing and creating a trip hazard for your customers. So choose a floor tape wisely.
3. Will it last for 12 months or more
One thing we don’t know about this virus is how long it is likely to be around for and how soon they can come up with a vaccine. So social distancing could be enforced for a longer period of time as a precaution. If this happens, you will need to maintain social distancing in your stores and retail outlets for this period of time. This brings up the question that if I am going to use tape, how long will it last? Because in this busy environment, you don’t want to be replacing your floor tape every second day! You want to be confident that what you put there will last the period of time – no matter how long.
Most tapes out there are only thin and will wear out quickly, especially in a high traffic application. Make sure you choose a tape that has a good thickness to ensure it will last the time required.
