When it comes to your business, time is money. You don’t want to have to stop work and clear the floor every couple of months to reapply line marking. That being said, line marking is essential to the safety and productivity of your business. We’ve put together this list of ways you can increase the life of your line marking so you don’t have to lose valuable time and resources reapplying.
Here they are:
- Prepare the floor
- Keep surrounding area clean
- Check for signs of wear
- Don’t abuse line marking
- Train the team
Prepare the floor.
To ensure line marking lasts for years, proper installation is vital. Before you apply any line marking, you must prepare the floor for application by removing any old tape or paint. Never place new line marking on top of old markings, as these can cause your new tape or paint to peel.
Once the floor is clean and dry, begin by creating a straight guiding line for you to follow. Creating a guiding line for you to follow will ensure that the tape or paint is applied accurately.
Keep surrounding areas clean.
Once the area is clean, begin applying your line marking. Once your line marking has been applied, make an effort to keep the area surrounding the lines clean and encourage your team to do the same. Mop or scrub your line marking as you would the rest of the floor, but do not allow puddles of water to sit around the line marking as this can weaken it over time.
Check for signs of wear.
Keep an eye out for signs of wear and tear on your line marking. If you spot a section of the paint or tape that is starting to tear or peel, remove it so it does not get worse. If you see sections that are starting to bubble, they will have to be removed as well.
Don’t abuse line marking.
Development in line marking tape and paint technology means that it can now withstand a lot more than it used to. That being said, we still recommend you take care of your line marking as much as possible. Avoid dry steering the wheels of a vehicle, braking or accelerating while on or near the line marking where possible, as these actions can cause it to prematurely age and damage.
By implementing an internal line marking system at your factory or workshop, employees gain knowledge about when extra caution is necessary – whether this means not entering, wearing protective attire, or simply remaining aware.
Train the team.
If you want to ensure your line marking goes the distance it’s important that you get the team on board. Be sure that all your employees know how to properly clean the line marking and encourage them to keep an eye out for signs of wear.
