How do you apply seamless floor coatings to a kitchen floor?

In the time-lapse video below, we show the process we use to apply our seamless flake flooring system – in this case to a kitchen and eating area.

Here’s some more details on what we did and why:

  1. Preparation – the existing floor was prepared using diamond grinders to abrade the surface. This is to provide an abrasion to the surface for the coating to adhere to. One thing to note is that we use dust extraction on our machines to ensure there is minimal airborne dust.
  2. Epoxy Coving – this is a mortar mix that is formed into the floor to wall junction. This turns a sharp corner into a rounded corner, making it easy to clean.
  3. 2 Pack Epoxy Base Coat and Coloured Flakes – the 2 pack base coat is applied to the abraded surface and provides the bond for the new system. While this is still wet the coloured flakes are broadcasted into the coating to provide an even colour.
  4. Scrape, Sand and Vacuum – scraping is then done to remove the bulk of the left over flake. Sanding is done to ensure there is no sharp pieces of flake sticking up. Vacuuming is then done to remove all fine particles that are left after the sanding.
  5. Clear Coats – 2 clear coats are then applied to provide a smooth, seamless wearing surface. Quartz can be applied to this coat for extra slip resistance.

There you have it! A brand new kitchen floor that will last for many years.
